20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

An amazing story with a catchy title, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea takes place in the 1860’s, a time when much of the oceans mysteries were still unlocked! The protagonist of the story, Professor Pierre Aronnax, along with Ned Land and Conseil, are in search of a mythical sea monster that has been attacking many ships in all bodies of water. The three set out on an adventure on board the Abraham Lincoln, a top tier naval ship with great agility! During the voyage, the Professor, a renown Marine Biologist, and Ned Land, a Canadian master Harpoonist, start bonding. This relationship plays a key role throughout the story. As the Abraham Lincoln advances, the crew tires and start abandoning their dream of catching the “Great Sea Monster”. On their final day at sea, it appears, toying with the crew by allowing the naval ship to follow it in circles for a whole day, and then attacking the ship, causing a great deal of damage. Professor Aronnax, Ned Land, and Conseil fall of the ship only to discover that this sea monster was a submarine.
After being rescued by the crew of the submarine, they meet Captain Nemo, the man that designed the brilliant submarine and is responsible for the attacks on several ships. He takes them in and gives them shelter in his submarine, even explaining how the submarine works. The catch-22 is that no matter how great the submarine may seem, the three “passengers” may never leave for home again.

  1. This novel makes us, as readers, think that a massive creature is going to be what's causing problems. But as you go on in the book, it tells us that its a submarine. I was instantly shocked. I wanted it to be a creature.
