The Novel started out with the naming of a child in 1975 who is our Tamar in the present day (1995). But the exciting part is in the past 50 years from 1995 the World War II. The story in 1944 started out with two young SOE agents Tamar and Dart lay back watching the British planes fly by. When Dart say the training will be unless since the war is ending, Tamar encourage him by saying "One way or another...we'll be in Holland soon. I'd bet my life on it" Telling Dart there is always thing to do to help their country even after the war. That was the first conversation between the two from the novel. It shows that both Dart and Tamar came from Netherlands and are close enough to be out there together. On the scene where Tamar joke about the torture from the Nazi don't happen when there is no useful information coming out of the person. "Unless" Dart responded "They just happen to enjoy it. As comrade they joke about their mission. When Colonel Nicholson summon Tamar to talk about the upcoming operation in Holland, he told Tamar that is Dart's first time on an Operation. He then follow up with questions "That worry you at all? A bit of a moody bugger, is he?" The answer from Tamar is "I don't think so. He'll be fine." This confident answer shows how much Tamar trust Dart.
As partners of SOE agents Tamar and Dart have a very strong bond. The more I read into the story of 1944 the more their relation grow. I have doubt it the love can break that. There must be something else that happens between them that cause Dart to betray Tamar. I am looking forward to find out.
PS: Pretty good book that keep me up awake.
