masque of red death

Continuing on with horror, I decided to read some short stories written by Edgar Allan Poe. The most recent story I read was “The Masque of the Red Death.” The story is a very hard piece to read, when characters and events get played out, I quite do not understand what exactly is happening or what is the overall intention of the character. However, when the author is describing a certain scene involving the characteristics of a horror, things make sense. You can visualize certain settings with the details given quite well. In the end it is still a bit confusing if you only comprehend several paragraphs.

Anyway the overall summary of the short story has to do with “Red Death.” Throughout the village many people have been dying due to this illness spreading, but the prince is not concerned about this at all. The prince decides to throw a masquerade party in his castle, and closes the gates so the red death will not enter. There are seven rooms, in which the party is being hosted, and each room is one solid different color, just the last room is black with red stained windows. As the night goes on a guest arrives at the place, he varies among the others even with a mask. He has a face of a corpse, and his clothes look as if they were to be from a funeral shroud. When you look upon his face it is very white with blood over it. People suspect he is under the illness of the red death. Everyone is afraid of this guest, but the prince. The prince decides to speak to the guest, and ends up dying. When others hear of this they enter the room to find that there is no body behind the mask of the guest. Turns out the guest is the red death and everyone but him ends up dying.
