THE SHINING REVIEW

The Shining is about a man who's writing career is suffering and is in an unhappy marriage. He also is an ex alcoholic. He decides to take up a job as a winter caretaker at a resort in the mountains hoping that he will be able to find some inspiration in the wilderness to begin to write again. So, him, his wife and his son move up to Denver so that they can all live at the hotel while he works there. Then, his son begins to develop psychic powers and his wife, being very loving, does not seem to find anything strange about the child's behavior. But then, the hotel itself starts to come alive. We later find out that this is because of all of the deaths and murders that have happened in the hotel in previous years. Room 217 in the hotel has a lock on its door and no one is allowed to enter. I am enjoying this book a lot and although i have never seen the movie i would now like to see how they interpreted the characters and the scenes from the book into the movie. The haunted hotel theme is a common one in many books and movies. The Shining is a great horror story since it is scary but also touches on the many problems that affect modern marriages.
